Problem with the Temp folder? Can't Launch Dogwaffle?
The Problem:
If you uninstalled old versions, such as free trial/demo or beta
versions, and installed a new version that is now in a different folder,
depending on some specific conditions, you may encounter a situation
whereby the Temp folder is no longer there but the registry is still
pointing to the old location. Dogwaffle may thus fail to find it, and
fail to launch. You may see something like this when attempting to
launch Dogwaffle::
When you click OK to continue, it may likely stop with Run-time error '424':
The Fix:
You have 2 options to reset your Temp folder when Dogwaffle (Howler, Artist or Particles) cannot find it.
1. First option:
Close the program first (in case it didn't actually crash.)
goto C:\Program Files (x86)\Howler\
(or wherever the program was installed).
find the file named ClearReg_pm.exe and run it (typically by double-clicking it).
You will see an image like the one below: select both check boxes and click "Clear registry"
Rerun Howler. It should
automatically setup a new temp folder, but we have seen a few rare cases
where that didn't fix it. Try option #2 in that case.
2. Second Option
Go to RegEdit and find...
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\VB and VBA Program Settings\dogwaffle\HowlerStartup
Delete the key named "TempDirectory"
Rerun Howler and it should create a new Temp directory.
