Happy penguin loves to waffle and howl

This is issue #122 of the Dogwaffler of the Moment, a sporadic, artsy newsletter for and about users of Project Dogwaffle.

Father's Day 2016

Hello again,

here is another update from the "Dogwaffler of the Moment", our sporadic newsletter about digital painting and animation as well as visual effects and exploring 3D creativity with Project Dogwaffle. If you want to catch up on recent or prior issues of our newsletters and announcements, start here:

This specific newsletter issue is here:

PD Artist 9.6 for just $2.50?  you betcha!

We've worked with Groupees, and now for another few days you can get PD Artist 9.6 as part of the Software Bundle #3.
See http://www.groupees.com/software3

The bundle also includes Curvy 3D version 2.

PD Artist is not the latest anymore, but it does include the 3D Designer with erosion, shadow cast and sediments which were introduced first in v9.5. See here for a reminder:
http://www.thebest3d.com/howler/features/3d-designer-sediment-coloring.html

Nowadays you can take it even further, save the created heightmap with displacement due to erosion and sediment, save the texture map, and use them in Puppy Ray, for example. You can also save it to Wavefront OBJ format, for use in 3D programs, if they can't rebuild the terrain mesh from the elevation map alone.

A Painting for Dad

Tiffanie Gray has been a beta tester for Project Dogwaffle for quite a while. She's been using Project Dogwaffle since version 1.1a - started over 15 years ago! Do you want to read some memories from the past? Check her DOTM page

Recently, she mentioned on her Facebook page how her mom passed away. She asked her dad what he would like, if there was something special that he could think of that would help him get over the pain and sadness. He mentioned that a few days earlier, Tiff had created a beautiful landscape painting for her mom. (see Pink Mountains further down).  He would very much enjoy something like that.

Tiff went on to create this painting for her dad:

Three Mountains - for Dad

three mountains

We have all greatly enjoyed Tiff's paintings over the years, the serenity and peace of nature, the beauty and therapeutic calm it conveys. Much like petting a dog or cat, the act of painting a thought, a memory, an experience can provide healing relief to stressful moments in life.

Tiff gives credit also to Bob Ross's painting techniques, as she's learned from him. Some images below are labeled "AR_", which means "After Ross", after learning from his videos. Ross passed away over 20 years ago, but his legacy continues, even in the age of digital painting, and helps other artists learn new techniques, re-discover the Joy of Painting. No matter what the medium, or whether your brushes are digital or made of wood and real bristles, there is no substitute for technique. If you enjoy nature painting, discover Bob Ross at https://www.youtube.com/user/BobRossInc and https://www.bobross.com/

Here are other images that Tiff has created with Project Dogwaffle.

News for Users on Steam - how to Upgrade

Some users on Steam who have Howler 9.6 have not been able to get the upgrade to v10 at the discount mentioned on Steam.
We're going to try once more to make the discounted price appear in your Steam account if you have 9.6 in your account, so that Howler 10 can then be ordered at the 51% discount for upgrading.

If all else fails, you can also order it from Philip or Dan directly, at squirreldome.com or thebest3d.com. SImply send us a screenshot showing that you have PD Howler 9.6 in your Steam account. We'll then send you a discount coupon for Howler 10. It will be running outside of Steam, full installer for standalone use. You can however also request a Steam key and we'll be happy to send you a key for using Howler 10 under Steam.

If you have any questions, please contact Phil or Dan - http://www.thebest3d.com/dogwaffle/about

How to Upgrade from earlier versions

If you own a copy of an earlier version and would like to upgrade to the latest, version 10 at this time for PD Artist or PD Howler, or you'd like to 'switch' from one edition to the other, such as from PD Howler to PD Artist, we can help. Simply contact us to request your discount coupon. If your current version is very old, then it might be better to just use the automatic discount mentioned here for Father's Day, but if you miss the deadline, you can always get a good discount, up to 51% and sometimes even better. We just need to know where you bought it, which could be Dan's site at squirreldome.com, or us here at thebest3d.com with the BMTmicro store, or earlier versions on Digibuy, and also Renderosity, Daz, Steam and a few others we've had in the long long past. You may have picked up a bundle which contained some version of Project Dogwaffle, such as the Groupees.com bundle mentioned above. That's all good and qualifies for discounts upon upgrading, so don't hesitate to send us an email and ask for your coupon. If you're a student or teacher you can get up to 75% off the regular price. If you are considering teaching the use of Project Dogwaffle in class, even if just to teach Lua scripting, talk to us about a site license.
