Turning the page on 2018.... Selamat 2019!
=============================================

Selamat, in Indonesian, means Congratulations!

Millions of people on hundreds or even thousands(?) of amazing islands, many with volcanoes, others with awesome blue lagoons, sharks of many kinds, coral reefs and foraminiferas blossoming and many worlds apart and communicating in languages of varying artistic scripts, ethnicities and religious beliefs, and other incomprehensibilities (if that wasn't a word, it is now).... oh and the food, and fashion,... you may be wearing a t-shirt made in Java or Malysia, and all these universes united by a single language: Bahasa Indonesia, the language of Indonesia, aka Indonesian.

When you think of it, Dogwaffle comes to mind too. We're connected. In many ways.

Congratulations! You've arrived with us at the point of no return.

We've imagined forams from the deep blue seas:

We've visited islands, some volcanic, some dormant or blue-lagoon types What if global warming turns into global cooling for Borneo? https://youtu.be/D8R026tyxFs Volcanic ash may look similar to snow. But just on the surface, just in CGI. More about it here in this past newsletter: https://www.thebest3d.com/dogwaffle/newsletter/130-Happy-New-Year We've seen the timid beginnings of amazingly turquoise-blue-green colored waters. https://www.thebest3d.com/dogwaffle/newsletter/131-Hello-Puppy Don't you just want to take your sandals, flip-flops or moon boots off and sink your toesies into that mix of corals and soft algae and kelp? Don't worry, no danger of prates here, just beautiful, peaceful art. Here's how we put it to work for game developers on Steam: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BZtyqcWjUu4 And here's another kind of 'Steam': a Steam Dragon, by Dartanbeck, a long time early adopter of Dogwaffle, who also excells at Carrara, 3D and video effects: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZPxvplTejhQ

 Mind you, w're not doing this alone though. You've seen artwork over the years, and tutorials working with other tools, from Gimp and Photoshop to Carrara and Lightwave 3D, to name a few, and game engines too. Even streamed on Twitch! It was a hell of a ride.
Here's Dan Ritchie talking about using Howler with Lightwave:

And now this: Learn to Animate - yes, from the Animation Master Himself: Don Bluth Teaches Animation! Want to learn to draw, sketch and animate? Learn from Don Bluth http://donbluthanimation.com/ Don't know who Don Bluth is? As a Dogwaffler, you should know.... because eventually, all dogs go to heaven https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/All_Dogs_Go_to_Heaven And there are so many other movies he produced, that you probably saw or heard about. But if you think that this is your land now, and that was before your time, .... well, let's just say, take that as a hint. Disclaimer: We're not saying he used Dogwaffle. (though he should have We're saying we have at least the dog thing in common. And animation. and the passion for animated art. Hey @Don, hats off to you, and if you read this, we'd love to send you an NFR copy of Howler ....or bundle it into your student package! Did you know there's another paint program within the paint program? 2 for 1. Penny Paint inside Howler. How cool s that? https://thebest3d.com/dogwaffle/penny/ New Dogwaffler of the Moment: another Don! >From Don Bluth, to Don Decker. Also an interesting artist in his own right. Copper sculptures, and digital paintings. The art of Don Decker https://www.thebest3d.com/dogwaffle/dotm/DonDecker Air Bubbles https://www.thebest3d.com/dogwaffle/dotm/DonDecker/Air-Bubbles-subset.jpg Elephant https://www.thebest3d.com/dogwaffle/dotm/DonDecker/Elephant-closeup.jpg A horse statue made of copper https://www.thebest3d.com/dogwaffle/dotm/DonDecker/h1-512.jpg This mine is mine https://www.thebest3d.com/dogwaffle/dotm/DonDecker/Old-Mine-1024.jpg I was a pirate, once. My name is Rusty. Argh! cough cough.. https://www.thebest3d.com/dogwaffle/dotm/DonDecker/P2-belt.jpg Which Skinny bird cannot play soccer but can stare you down on one leg? This one can. Its name is Pele. Yes, Pele can stare you down. https://www.thebest3d.com/dogwaffle/dotm/DonDecker/ThePelican-512.jpg Last but certainly not least: Digital Life 3D We've come across this site, from a professor of biology at University of Amherst, Massachusetts. Interesting project, using photogrammetry to reconstruct 3D models of real animals. Frogs, lizars, spiders, sharks, fish (ok, I know, sharks are fish too), toads, geckos, scorpions... and more to come. Beautiful 3D models, created by 3D designers and artists at heart, free for artists to work with. Check the license. You can very likely use it in your commercial artwork too. The project's mission is also to see what people will come up with. Be sure to share, this is show and tell. You also will find them at sketchfab.com - but more interesting details are found at the original site, such as background info about the turtle that lost a fin to a shark bite, or which frog is poisonous, or whether that spider can kill you. Yellow/black colors are usually mother nature's way of warning a potential predator. Such as on wasps and bees. Like to read? You'll love their blog: http://digitallife3d.org/blog/ Find out why it's there, why it's free, and why it matters, in the grand scheme of things. Bookmark it. Look out for more. This will be golden! like this Golden Gecko: https://skfb.ly/6uGXU Ok, we lied, that wasn't the last. Here's one more.... What are those .blend files? Some of the free models from DigitalLife3D.org can be downloaded as Wavefront OBJ files, but others in .blend files. What is .blend? It comes from Blender. Just use Blender (free at www.blender.org) so you will be able to work with these files, including to export to OBJ for use in Dogwaffle. You may need to revert backfacing polygons in some cases. If every other triangle is missing when rendered in Howler, that's probably the reason. You can fix that in many other programs, such as Lightwave. And if you have a few bucks left (after upgrading to Howler 2019 of course you will, it's cheap enough), perhaps you'll consider making a small donation to the Blender foundation? Thanks! It will be an even better companion to Howler, for creating your own 3D assets, brush images, textures and animations. And really last but not least: don't forget to get your 3d stickers, the stamps created by Michel Agullo. https://www.thebest3d.com/3dstickers As well as the pumpkin stickers for your iPhone / iPad chat. And stay tuned for more tutorials and assets based on Michel's 3D visions. He'll be a great ally to help us all be a kid again! https://thebest3d.com/2019/pumpkin-house-800.jpg That's all folks. Thanks for waffling and howling! Team Dogwaffle
