This is issue #165 of the Dogwaffler of the Moment, our sporadic newsletter about Project Dogwaffle.

   December: Bye-bye 2020 ?  nah, just kidding

This edition and other issues of the newsletter can be found here with more content:
 https://www.thebest3d.com/dogwaffle/newsletter

So what's all the fuzz with 2020?

2020 - a symbol of perfect vision when spelled this way:  20/20
2020 - the year coming up next. A leap year. February 29 is coming soon.
2020 - the year of the Summer Olympics in Japan. Exciting!
2020 - the Project Dogwaffle saga continues... :-)

So, it's not bye-bye Howler 2020.... It's more like Bye-Bye-2019. Not HOWLER 2019 either, that version remains still available if you're strapped for a few bucks and Santa didn't think you were nice enough this past year. .... No,  it's bye-bye to the YEAR 2019. And welcome 2020. And welcome to Howler 2020, which we started shipping a few months ago, and in fact continued releasing with new features, bug fixes and enhancements. We're about to call it "2020.1" in fact - Stay tuned.

Thanks for waffling and howling, and we wish you all very merry peaceful holidays and a prosperous Happy New Year.

The Community Webinar at Digital Art Live?

Yay we had another successful webinar hosted by Paul Bussey at https://www.DigitalArtLive.com - and we highly recommend you check his upcoming calendar, with more interesting things for lots of 2D and 3D art solutions and tools.

https://digitalartlive.com/events/

Our focus on this most recent webinar with PD Howler 2020, which was held December 8, was indeed focused on animation techniques and animation tools found in PD Howler. Examples  of what we discussed and presented:

- Workflow basics: storing an image, a brush, a selection, an animation
- hand drawn animation and the light table, and the frame painter
- combining, displacing, compositing... workign with stored animations as animated swap
- animbrushes
- many fun filters with animation, such as Tunnel
- animation in Puppy Ray to fly across a landscape or do panoramic sweeps.
- and lots more

Of course we ran out of time to cover everything, since there is so much, there are so many features in PD Howler. It doesn't do everything imaginable, of course, but it does pack quite a punch.

We might want to do another webinar, perhaps on topics such as the Particle Modeler to create and animate volumetric clouds. You may remember this? This one was before it was released, a sneak preview.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Q-DN4vuaOc

and here was an initial walk-through by Dan Ritchie, announcing it with Howler 9.5:

Anyway, we hope you enjoyed the webinar.

Dogwaffler of the Moment

The Warp Hole - by Faith Jones

PDHowler is epic, I first started using it in 2015, and watched some of the tutorials.
Here's my Instagram, a lot of my VFX utilise 3D landscapes created in part with PDHowler:
https://www.instagram.com/thewarphole/

These make great live wallpapers for my phone.
I've found the software unlike any other, it feels like a lot of the smoke and dagger has been taken out unlike other software packages.

the warp hole

This one is my favourite: Tunnel with artistic Graphic Pen filter. To me it evokes a horror aesthetic, like Manga by Junji Ito (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Junji_Itohttps://www.instagram.com/p/BreJoGegwhf/ sample-z.jpg

Here are some recent enhancements.

More might be added as we discover it.

Reminder - Read the Adventures of Silver Squirrel

Looking for a gift to give? How about a book?

Here's a word from the creator of PD Howler's Project Dogwaffle, and writer of the adventures of Silver Squirrel. If you like to read, read this:

I would also like to take this opportunity to announce my latest book, Silver Squirrel and the Princedome of the Hill, in which Silver Squirrel is chosen to save a castle-like city built by deer, which is now under siege by a pack of wolves.  If you like a good read in the vein of Watership Down, and Narnia, every purchase helps keep Howler development going.  Visit Silver Squirrel at http://squirreldome.com/Silver.htm

Silver Squirrel in Uneasy Pieces review When we last left Silver Squirrel, the eponymous odd-duck hero of Dan Ritchie’s debut novel, he and his intended mate, Sandy Brown, had just escaped the enigmatic predator known as The Hawk.

As always, thanks for Howling, and please let others know about us.  Don't keep us a secret anymore.  Your help really... helps... a lot!

And was we said before, every order keeps Howler development going, so it's a win-win!  Silver Squirrel is a hero who solves his problems with love and forgiveness, and changes the world in his own unique, rodenty way.

These are the Silver Squirrel Ebooks that are currently available for sale:

With the holidays around the corner, these make great gifts.

And that's it, for now.

Thanks again for waffling and howling! Team Dogwaffle
