PD Artist 9.6 is here!

===========================================================================

Pricing and Availability:

PD Artist 9.6 is now available for purchase from our online store at BMTmicro. It is also available through the author's website at www.squirreldome.com (look for Artist under 'Products') for about the same price. The regular price for PD Artist 9.6 (new full installer) is $27. See below for introductory sale promo.

PD Artist 9.6 is a paid upgrade for users of PD Artist 9.0-9.2. (just like Howler 9.5 was a paid upgrade for users of Howler 9.0-9.2). Artist 9.6 builds upon the features from the 9.5 and 9.6 releases. Once again, very strong discounts are being offered for existing users of Artist 9.2.
If you already have Artist 9.2, you will soon receive an email with a discount coupon for 55% off to upgrade to Artist 9.6, if interested. If you're in a hurry and don't want to wait, contact us.

If you have other prior versions, such as PD Artist 8, 7, or earlier, you will still be offered a discount coupon to upgrade at significant savings. If you can't wait for the notification email, please contact us. If you already have a discount coupon, use it.

You can order PD Artist at http://www.thebest3d.com/dogwaffle/sales

Note that we also offer sidegrades: you can move up from PD Artist to PD Howler - ask us for your discount coupon.

Introductory Sale: 33% off through end of March!

A time-limited discount of 33% is automagically applied. For the next few weeks, through the end of March 2015, you can get PD Artist 9.6 for just about $18 and change. This offer expires on April 1st (no joke).

So.... What's New in PD Artist 9.6?

In short: a lot!

The main website is http://www.thebest3d.com/pda

To understand what's new in Artist 9.6, it helps to remember what was added in Howler 9.6 and 9.5. PD Artist is a subset of Howler.

With PD Howler, we had a 9.5 release before the 9.6 release. We did not have that for PD Artist. So, Artist 9.6 is the first release of the Artist edition that also includes the main features added in v9.5. This includes many of the new features highlighted here:

http://www.thebest3d.com/howler/features

PD Artist 9.6 is a natural media paint program. It focuses on fancy brushes and filters. Unlike the Howler edition, Artist does not do animations or work with video clips, with one exception: You can load image sequences and videos into the brush to make those into animated brushes, and paint with them.

The new version is focused on improving the user experience on different kinds of hardware ranging from tablets to workstations, and adding new tools that are critical to visual effects, particularly in game content creation:

  • draw maps, including elevation maps
  • turn them into realistic 3D renderings with colroed erosion and sediments
  • add clouds and fog
  • quickly paint various types of plants such as grass, bushes and trees with special foliage brushes and particle brushes
  • add filter effects for light diffusion, more fog and sunset mood and other photographic effects
  • add realistic glare and lens flares

To learn more, visit the website pages that describe most of the new features from v9.6 and 9.5, and ignore the parts that talk about video oranimation. Those are specific to the Howler edition only.

As a reminder, we also have a recent slideshow here:   http://www.thebest3d.com/slideshow9.5

Most of the images represent things you can do also now with PD Artist 9.6, even if they were created with Howler 9.5. The only exception would be if the final image was the result of some animation.
