In this issue:

A Closer Look at Axehead: New Filters in Howler 11

We mentioned in the last newsletter that there are a number of new and improved filters. Here is a subset of the list:

Julia set rendering on GPU
We've had Mandelbrot fractals for a while. Now we added several flavors of the Julia set, on GPU.

Water drops
There are so many thing to do with Water drops - it's almost criminal to show only one image here. Be sure to explore.

Shape bombing

Dan has developed a new API, and with that comes the ability to generate new shapes and fun stuff. This is one incarnation of that.

Worley noise

Worley noise started last summer as a free plugin, and we've now integrated it to make it faster and more powerful, adding animation too. Here's an animated Worley noise loaded into Puppy Ray and rendered as an agitated ocean surface.

Water caustics

A similar effect can be obtained with the Water caustics filter. It is usually associated with dancing lights at the bottom of a lake or swimming pool, but can be abused to represent ever-changing moving sand dunes and a lot more.

Water ripples

And here's one more related to water - Water Ripples. This one is in the Animated filters category.

As you can see, there are many ways to create elements that relate to water, animated fluids and reflective or refractive displacements.

Here's one more, done with the Puppy Ray filter.

This is just a very small sample of what's new and what you can explore now. Of course, let's not forget rendering landscapes with the new water plane in Puppy Ray.
